Looking for ideas for Apprentice Award Events...

Any states or entities that do state or local apprentice awards dinners, such as “Apprentice of the Year” or “Sponsor of the Year”? How does it work? (What are the categories? Who decides the winners? How is the event funded?)

Ideas to promote to employers?

I'm wondering if anyone has any out-of-the-box, creative ways (that were successful as well) for attracting employers to RA?

Startling lack of data on ROI out there. Anyone? Bueller?

I'm trying to get my hands on return on investment data from an employer's perspective, not government. It's amazing how little information or studies have been done on this topic. As a result of our statewide action clinic, I'm putting together a "white paper" of sorts to address the economical benefits of registered apprenticeship, but it's next to impossible to find on the web.

Does anyone have any data on how much an employer invests vs. how much they recoup? Please help!

Anyone have good pre-apprenticeship models to share?

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to give an update on the Pathways to Construction pre-apprenticeship program that was recently developed in Fort Worth, Texas.

The program graduated its first class on September 18, 2009. All 15 trainees who started the program graduated, and one has already found employment.

The graduation ceremony took place at the Fort Worth Opportunity Center and was hosted by Tarrant County College. Friends and family members of the graduates attended and there was a definite air of excitement and hope.

Tarrant County College, Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County, and the Independent Electrical Contractors (IEC) of Fort Worth all put in a lot of hard work and time to make this program such a success but it was the commitment from the trainees, and the support they received from friends and families that really made it work. Congratulations to all!!

Sponsors Getting the Word Out!

In North TX our sponsors use the standard newspaper ads, distributing fliers to local schools and career focused community organizations, etc but a few of them have also taken some novel approaches such as advertising on websites such as Craig's List and YouTube, participating and joining Career and Technical Education Advisory Board's of the local ISDs, and forming partnerships with local One Stop centers to the point of taking applications and conducting the interviews in the center. We also have a sponsor that targets veterans by running ads in the movie theaters close to the local military installations.

Kansas Action Clinic

The clinic managed to generate an numbers of ideas. It was informative. It was useful to see the big picture.

What is the next step? I have made a posting on what I feel is the need to create some consistency of expectations. Hopefully, some discussion will ensue.

I am looking forward to our apprenticeship council meeting this month to get more input on reactions from the clinic.

Team California

Just to confirm the excitement California's event is creating, John Ladd, our National Administrator, has just finished taping a welcome message for the June 18 clinic. The message will air during the event. We in the National Office are feeding off the energy created by California's, and other States', efforts towards integration of WIA, education and Registered Apprenticeship. Keep the momentum going Team California.
