As part of the Patrick-Murray Administration’s Massachusetts Recovery Plan, Governor Deval Patrick and Congressman Michael Capuano today announced that the Just-A-Start Corporation will receive $160,000 in stimulus funding to help connect youth to green jobs training at the organization’s YouthBuild program.
As part of the Patrick-Murray Administration's Massachusetts Recovery Plan, Governor Deval Patrick and Congresswoman Niki Tsongas today announced $1 million in stimulus funding to implement a program to prepare participants for jobs or apprenticeships in construction trades and related occupations. The Lowell-based Community Teamwork Inc. (CTI) will receive $167,500 to train students in construction related jobs, including the opportunity to complete Middlesex Community College's green industry certificate programs.
WorkForce West Virginia has received a $6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to support the state’s efforts to provide “green-jobs” education and training.
“This grant will help out-of-work Kansans re-train for new jobs in the renewable energy sector,” said Governor Mark Parkinson, who announced the award today at the 2010 Workforce Summit in Topeka. “With these new resources, made possible through the American Recovery Act, Kansas will continue its role as a leader in renewable energy, with a ready and skilled workforce.”
Wisconsin will expand its apprenticeship programs to help nearly 3,000 unemployed workers get training for green jobs ranging from wastewater treatment plant operators to energy auditors. The Maritime Administration today announced a funding opportunity with $14,700,000 identified for grants available for grants for capital and related improvements for qualified shipyard facilities that will be effective in fostering efficiency, competitive operations, and quality ship construction, repair, and reconfiguration. The shipyard facility for which a grant is sought must be in a single geographical location, located in or near a maritime community, and may not have more than 1,200 production employees. The applicant must be the operating company of the shipyard facility. The "Pathways Out of Poverty" grants — as the group of funding awards is known — will support programs that help disadvantaged populations find ways out of poverty and into economic self-sufficiency through employment in energy efficiency and renewable energy industries.
Several youth-serving agencies will benefit from $100 million in green jobs training grants that the U.S. Department of Labor released Wednesday. The grants – awarded to 25 organizations – are part of a larger $500 million Recovery Act initiative designed to fund workforce development projects in the so-called “green economy.” The jobs training could lead to employment that ranges from entry-level to unionized positions.
