This Webinar provided an overview of the results of a recent Mathematica Policy Research study on the high earnings potential of Apprentices and the cost-benefits to the public sector and taxpayers. The Webinar also highlighted how Washington State has used funding for School to Registered Apprenticeship programs, non-traditional Apprenticeships, and Apprenticeships in high-demand industries. On June 5 and 6 the Secretary of Labor's Advisory Committee on Apprenticeship (ACA) met, along with leaders from throughout the Apprenticeship & Veterans assistance communities, to develop strategeis aimed at helping transitioning Vets gain access to well-paying long-term careers. Read more here.
During the Summer of 2012, the Secretary of Labor challenged the Advisory Committee on Apprenticeship (ACA) to develop recommendations that leverage the Registered Apprenticeship model and its system of over 250,000 employers, joint labor-management organizations, and industry and educational partners to help ensure America stays competitive in today's global economy. Through months of hard work, the ACA developed the "Shared Vision for Increasing Opportunity, Innovation, and Competitiveness for American Workers and Employers: A Report from the Secretary of Labor’s Advisory Committee on Apprenticeship.” This report reflects their recommendations for advancing Registered Apprenticeship into the 21st Century. President Obama discussed the need to prepare workers with job-ready skills during his January 28 State of the Union Address, and followed that by highlighting the need for more apprenticeships to accomplish that goal. Read more here.

The purpose of this notice is to provide interested parties with the planning guidance for use by states in submitting their Unified State Plans under section 501 of the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 as well as Plan modifications. The Planning Guidance provides a framework for the collaboration of governors, local elected officials, businesses and other partners to continue the development of workforce investment systems that address customer needs, deliver integrated user-friendly services, and are accountable to the customers and the public.
