The California Department of Industrial Relations put together the "I Built It!" campaign to highlight opportunities in construction apprenticeships. This series of 15- and 30-second public service announcements stars actual apprentices on the job, telling their stories in sound bites and quick visual scenes. With titles like "I"m on Top of the World!' and "I'm Having a Blast!" that can describe a real day on a construction job, the campaign uses humor and the enthusiasm of the workers to get the point across. Oh, and the excellent pay and benefits are mentioned too, as well as the sense of accomplishment these apprentices enjoy from completing a high rise building, a bridge, or a new freeway

County supervisors signed off today on a plan to spend $4 million in federal stimulus funds on community outreach, youth work experience training and affordable housing projects, all of which are expected to create about 180 jobs. The following is a message from Andy Levin: Michigan Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth Deputy Director Andy Levin today announced that Michigan will devote $1 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) to create the Michigan Registered Apprenticeship Pilot (MRAP) program. MRAP funds will provide incentives to employers who partner with their local Michigan Works! agencies to sponsor 1,000 new apprentices in U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) registered apprenticeships.
The U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy and Employment and Training Administration's Office of Apprenticeship announce the availability of approximately $400,000 to fund two Registered Apprenticeship for Youth and Young Adults with Disabilities cooperative agreements. About the UK's young apprenticeship programme in Sports Management, Leadership and Coaching. This program is integrated into the high school system, and over a 2-year span of apprenticeship it teaches 14-16 year olds core job skills in sports management, leadership, and coaching. When they graduate high school, they leave with job skills that make them more employable.
