The Office of Apprenticeship hosted a webinar in March with the HHS Bureau of Health Professionals on the Community Health Worker apprenticeship model. Leslie Hargrove of the Coastal Area Health Education Center (AHEC) in Texas and Kathy Erdmann, Nebraska State Apprenticeship Director, worked together to make the CHW an apprenticeable occupation. Community Health Worker (CHW) is a relatively new and growing occupation on the frontlines of public health that supports individuals and communities to adopt healthy behaviors. The CHW job duties can include conducting outreach for medical personnel or health organizations to implement health programs in the community; providing information on available resources; providing social support and informal counseling; advocating for individuals and community health needs; and collecting data to help identify community health issues.
